I Paint Turkish Tiles the Old Way

ten years ago, i left this craft for corporate life. came back burned out, scrolling endlessly, unable to focus on anything real.

painting 500-year-old iznik patterns brought me back.

now i teach others the same escape - through traditional art that demands your full presence.

this is my craftsmanship. slow, focused, unchanging for centuries.

How I Learned Traditional Turkish Craftsmanship

i first touched clay at 19. loved it immediately. but life took me to corporate administrative work for a decade.

six years ago, i came back to ceramics. three years ago, i found my path: learning iznik tile art directly from turkish masters in istanbul.

they taught me the way they were taught, the techniques ottoman artisans used in the 16th century.

every tile i paint takes 35+ hours. large panels take 50+ hours or more. the process itself is meditation. my hands move. my mind quiets.

beyond creating

Preserving Knowledge Through Documentation

most people creating "turkish tiles" today skip the hard parts. they simplify patterns, use modern shortcuts, call it close enough.

i don't.

i follow the strict rules of classic iznik period. same patterns. same pigments. same firing methods used 500 years ago.

but i'm not just recreating old tiles. i'm documenting this disappearing knowledge.

through my blog, i write about ottoman ceramics history, interview master artisans, and share traditional art techniques that aren't taught anymore.

this archive isn't for me. it's for anyone who refuses to let 500 years of craftsmanship vanish because it's "too slow" for modern production.

Istanbul Workshops & Mindful Art Practice

i teach iznik tile painting in istanbul. small groups. hands-on. three hours with your phone put away.

my workshops are about presence. about what happens when you focus on one thing for three uninterrupted hours.

whether you join me in istanbul or paint at home with my templates, you're learning the same traditional craftsmanship.

Hand-Drawn Templates for Your Practice

i hand-paint authentic iznik patterns, then convert them into downloadable templates.

these aren't coloring pages. they're detailed traditional art references that teach you ottoman motifs the right way.

  • print on watercolor paper
  • paint 15-min a day
  • build a mindful art practice without leaving home

every template purchase includes access to my weekly live masterclasses. i show you the techniques my masters taught me.

same traditional craftsmanship. your own pace.
